Mammal adds to a lineage of mouth-resonator devices including the Sonovox (realized recently in the Electrospit), Talkbox, Kustom's The Bag, and the electrolarynx. The speaker tube of the talkbox is exchanged for a method of coupling inspired by the Vietnamese string instrument Dan K'ni. Tension in a string transfers sound from a transducer to a small membrane, much like a paper cup telephone, which can then be used to project audio into the mouth. The prototype sounds comparable to a talkbox.
